Arulmigu Sridevi Bhoodevi Samedha
Sri Melmudi Ranganathar

This website is about the beautiful perumal temple that is located in Coimbatore District, Tamil nadu, India. We are happy to give information about this famous Sri Melmudi Ranganathar temple. This temple is located in the highest peak Guruvarishi malai in 'North Coimbatore'. We can see the temple from any place in North Coimbatore. This is 1615 m height.
In this Melmudi area many siddhas lived and worshiped the Lord Perumal in this temple . When we go for worshipping the Lord, we are able to feel the great vibration of siddha purushas. Even now this feeling of vibration is being experienced by many. They have been guided in their life through the Siddha purushas during their meditation in the Temple and their lifestyle has been changed in an amazing manner.
It is a belief that, Lord Ranganatha Perumal face had become the hill. So it is considered as “The head portion” of Ranganatha Perumal. The name MELMUDI RENGANATHAR came for this temple. We are worshiping His face in Garbhagriha. This hill is also considered as “The crown of all”, as this temple can be seen from any part of Northern Coimbatore District, Tamilnadu, India.
The age of this temple is more than 1000 years. As this temple is located in the dense forest of Western Ghats. So we have to get approval from the forest department to travel inside. Near the Melmudi Ranganathar temple in Periyanaickenpalayam Range, animals like Leopards, Civet cats, Sambar deers, barking deers and endangered animals are to be seen along with elephants.
As forest and animals are our properties, we the committee members of the temple are very much conscious in maintaining the peace and purity of the surroundings. The devotees who visit the temple are advised to become a member of the Arulmigu Sri Melmudi Renganathar Vazhipadu Sangham , based on the security purpose . The membership card is given once we enroll. The rules of Forestry Department have to be strictly followed when we visit the temple. Forestry department have installed cameras in and around the temple. Non Vegetarian foods, Plastics, Tobacco and any flammable items and hunting are strictly prohibited. We should not carry any of these prohibited items with us to temple while we travel inside the forest.
There are lots of rare herbs (mooligaigal). So bhaktas are requested not to pluck those rare herbs and disturb them. We request devotees to follow strictly the rules and regulations while we go to the temple. On the eastern side of the Melmudi Temple there is an Adi Shiva Temple on an one hour walkable distance in the top and name of this place is “Naadukanda Bodi”. This Adi Shiva is also very much popular. The face of Shiva is there and this Adi Shiva is believed to be worshipped by lot of siddhas. Sage Arunagirinathar sang a song on the Lord Muruga in this Melmudi temple. When we stand here on the top , we can view the whole of North Coimbatore in a nice manner. This hill is the aboard of both Lord Shiva and Vishnu.
For temple darshan devotees are allowed only during September- October. We are celebrating various functions and also we have arranged for full year Pooja in the temple. Similarly like other Perumal (Vishnu) Temple we are celebrating all functions in a grand manner. Here in Moolasthanam we are having cave temple and in Graba Graham we are having three deities. Ranganatha with Sridevi and Bhoodevi in Garbha Graham grace all the devotees who surrender with full dedicated bhakti. Once we experience HIS grace, then we will sure make a visit for His darshan. We can experience many miracles.
Many diseases are cured by a worship of Melmudi Renganathar. His Abishega Teertha cures many diseases, as the medicated water we do for Abhishegam is from sunai that comes from upper side of the temple. When we preserve this holy abhishega water in our homes, evil forces do not face us and so we get prosperity and happiness throughout our life. It is a belief even now. During Thiruvonam pooja, it is believed that Ranganatha is blessing with kids within a year for those who are longing for it. Because of the performance of this pooja, many are benefitted. The village people who live around this renganathar Temple still feels that the Lord is the first person in their family and show they do pooja during the festival time in a grand manner.
In our scriptures we are able to know that Sacred Ganga is having its source from the body of Lord Vishnu (Krishna) especially, while smiling. We can know this from Srimad Bhagavadam, Devi Bhagavadam, Vishnu Puranam and in Narayaneeyam. Brahma took a little portion of this holy Ganga water in his kamandala. The fierce flow of this holy Ganga was headed by Lord Shiva, when Bagirathan took her to Bharatha Vrsha. As this Melmudi Ranganatha is considered as the head of Ranganatha (Lord Vishnu) the sunai here is called by the name “Aakasha Ganga”. Hence it is a very holiest center. Garudaralvar is facing Lord Melmudi Renganatha outside the Garbha Graham. The course of the Aakasha Ganga is through the Adi Shiva Temple. It is the rarest place where the Akasha Ganga flows both in Shiva and Vishnu temple.
Very famous Veera Hanuman is here. He is most powerful. Whatever we pray to him, no doubt, we will be graced with His favour. Many bhaktas are having marvelous experiences in solving the problems nicely in their lives because of the prayer to Powerful Veera Hanuman. Vennai kappu, Raja Alankaram, Poo Alankaram, Vadamalai Alangaram, Sandana kappu are performed to Hanuman by devotees as per their Prarthana.
We can have a darshan of Saptha matha, Lord Shiva, Parvati, Ganesh ,Murugan, Nagar and Sai Baba. We can also have a view of Lord Muruga in a special form of “ having the Vel in his right hand and gracing the bhakthas through his left hand”. When we start from foot of the hills we have to cross more than five temples, Kaval deivam, Karupanna samy, Sastha, Ramar temple etc. Once their prayers are fulfilled there is a tradition of keeping vel or sulam in are around the places of the temple.
As this temple is maintained purely in a traditional manner keeping a pollution free aspects, the gardens (Nandavanam) are maintained in an organic way. Our tradition is followed by us in all forms of worship (including dress code). This temple is managed by a proper committee consisting of President, Treasurer, Secretary, Organizer and Board Members. There regulate and maintain the day to day activities of this very old temple and the accounts are being audited properly. Many youngsters are involved in volunteering the activities of the temple. Each village around the temple have their own volunteers groups and each group is doing their service in an excellent manner. Because of the great efforts of the people, we have a fruitful growth of the Temple. Many facilities are offered for the devotees.
In olden days the cave temple and the outside alone was there, we developed by constructing the temple even though it is a tough task to bring the building construction materials from down. All happens because of the grace of Ranganathar only through the efforts and bhakti of the devotees.
We are having ladies group for this temple. They will do Vilakku pooja and Bhajans for the benefits of their family and world. For doing this pooja we have a mini hall constructed in the temple. They involve in full-fledged manner in all functions. We do proper care to take ladies to the temple in hills in safest manner.
We also have children’s group. We are training our younger generations in our temple traditions. All involve in an enthusiastic manner to participate in our daily routine pooja. We teach divine stories for the kids from our scriptures, Ramayana, Alwargal stories, Nayanmargal stories and also physical exercises and involving in value education system. Many are tribal here in and around this dense forest. So through our Vivekananda educational tutorial center, that is functioning in Chinnathadagam village by the youngsters of the village as a voluntary organization more than 16 years we are taking tuitions and motivating the kids. It is a social service without any profit motive.
We run our temple daily pooja expenses to big functions by the contribution from the members and donations collected from public. Mostly voluntary offerings are the main source of income for this temple. It is purely run by self. Audit is done every month for the accounts.
For the benefit of devotees we are having lot schemes do offer their prayers, prathanas and participation in this divine karma even through online system. We want everyone to participate in this divine work and get blessings of Renganathar.
By the grace of Lord we have started the construction work for the temple and also planned to do Urchavar, Garudar,Pallakku Ranganatha and also for other deities small small temple. The work is under process and proposal. Along with this in the traditional way we are planning to have the proposal to do the complete set for the temples articles and there are other deities of Lord Ganesha, Lord Muruga, Lord Shiva, Maa Parvathi, Lord Hanuman, Nagar , Sapthamatha. We are planning to construct temples for them also near the Perumal temple. All these deities at present are in open space only.
The distance from Chinnathadagam to the Temple is around 6-7 kms. From Coimbatore Gandhipuram to Chinnathadagam is 15kms. As this is a hill temple there is no staying facility near the temple, so we have to return in the evening from the temple.
With the grace of Melmudi Ranganatha Perumal on 17th April of 2016 we did the Noothana(New) Urchava Prathishta for the Temple at Sri Velli Vinayagar Temple, in Chinnathadagam Coimbatore.
